In response to our opinion piece, "Has anybody here seen Fallston?", one visitor decided to set the record straight. We're glad he did.
"Fallston is where it's always been, near Old Fallston Road and Watervale, not far from Fallston High School. It is the peaceful little village where the Ma and Pa Railroad crossed at Main Street where the General store was. And where the historic Friends Meeting house stands.
"Fallston is not at Rt. 152 and Rt. 1 (that is Lynche's Corner). And it's not the over-crowded business section along Route 1. The addresses on their envelopes may say "Fallston", but that's just because their mail passes through the Fallston Post Office.
"One thing about the huge influx and over-population of outsiders in the county over the past few years is none of them knows anything about the county they now live in.
"I didn't mean to go off or anything, and I wasn't jumping on you. I just wanted to set the facts straight. I have lived here in the county all of my 40 years . and always hear people that have moved in from somewhere else ask where something is, and state that it must not be because they don't see it physically. That is like Street. People think they live in Street because it's the name on their envelopes. However, Street is not a place, but just a Post Office building that handles people's mail. The Street Post Office is just outside of Highland. It handles mail for a huge part of the county, stretching from Route 1 north to Pylesville and from Darlington to near Jarrettsville. But there is no town or village of Street.
"There is a lot of history in Fallston. It has just been bypassed by the bigger roads and towns.
"I have an interest in county history for many years . many of the names associated with places are from the past and they may not be as visible to newcomers. The county has been populated so fast from so many outsiders in recent years, and it seems that Harford is losing its own identity and past."
